3 Spectacular Places in Kerala That Are Popular Movie Locations in India

Kerala, which is also well renowned as “God’s Own Country’, has some of the best movie locations to offer in India. Since ages, the state beauty has allured not just tourists, but directors and film makers, with its personification that nature has gifted Kerala with. How one can forget the cascading waterfalls, the serene movements of the houseboats over the picturesque backwaters, the most artistic dance form, Kathakali, the serene coastline and the famous historical places that are featured in most of the movies both in Bollywood and South Indian Movies. Somewhat the popularity of Kerala is greatly influenced by some of the movies that are shot in the picturesque locations that state is gifted with. Among the many the top three locations ideal for movie shooting are mentioned as below.

Here is a list of three popular movie locations in the state.

Munnar
Munnar is another popular tourist destination in the state, but it is equally famous among the movie makers. The enthralling beauty and the picturesque locations of this hill station was awesomely covered in the 20 days movie shot of the Bollywood movie, ‘Nishabd’ starred Amitabh Bachchan (one of the well known figures in the Bollywood industry) and the new comer Jiah Khan.

It is truly difficult to capture the beauty of Munnar with one particular lens and that too in such a short period of time. But to the matter of fact, the hill station has always tempted the visitors and the movie makers with its unparallel beauty, which is very difficult to refrain by using hyperboles and superlatives.
The versatile director “Ang Lee” with his creativity leaf the world spell bound with the film “Life of Pi” that won not just the heart of the viewers, but also won four Oscars including Best Director for Ang Lee. Some part of the movie was shot in Munnar and Chandigarh.

Munnar poses as one of the top most attractions in the destination of Kerala. The scenic beauty of this hill station is such that it is not only popular among the domestic tourists but is also highly renowned among the international tourists. This pristine hill station is placed at the confluence of three mountain streams, namely Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala, at a height of around 1600 m above sea level. Munnar features a long stretch of tea plantations, colonial bungalows, rivulets, waterfalls and cool weather.

Athirappily
This beautiful waterfall is situated at a height of about 1000 ft above sea level on the Chalakudy River. The lush green forest and the cluster of small streams merging together to form the big streams falling down is something to treasure while your visit in Kerala. The waterfall is the true delight to the eyes of the nature lovers.  Wandering through the hills, crossing the small streams and enjoying the small water pools between the rocks are something that every nature enthusiast would love to experience at this place. The Bollywood movie, ‘Raavan’ had shot a clip at this beautiful location of Athirappily waterfall. As the film did not get very good response in the box office, the only good thing in the film was the scenic scene of the mesmerizing waterfall and the picture-perfect hills at the background must. While shooting the scene in the movie, the true natural beauty of Athirappilly must have even given a complex to the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai.

Alleppey Backwaters
Nothing can provide such a picturesque location then the backwaters of Kerala, for a movie shot. The most popular song in the Bollywood “Jiya Jale Jaan Jale’, from the movie ‘Dil Se’ starring leading actor Shahrukh Khan and actress Preity Zinta was shown, depicting their true love and romance on a houseboat with a picturesque backdrop. The songs also depict the unparallel beauty of the nature, culture and showcase Kerala as a culturally and naturally gifted state, ideal for truly a wonderful movie shoot.
